2010 NISTO Guidelines for Continuing Professional
Development
15 CPD points need to be accrued every calendar year.
Teachers who fail to complete enough points may have their Teaching Membership
Status withdrawn. If you accrue more
than 15 points in any calendar year you may carry forward up to 5 points to
the following year.
CPD points can be accrued by attendance/completion of 1 to 5.
Numbers 1 to 3 – CAN be advertised stating the number of CPD points
1. BWY IST Events - 7 ½ points
2. BWY Distance Learning IST - 7 ½ points
3. BWY Modules – These accrue 1 point per hour.
4. Directed Private Study – A minimum of 7.5 hours Home Study can
accrue a maximum of 5 CPD points in any one year.
5. Other Yoga Events or Relevant Training Events (these CANNOT be
advertised as CPD or state the number of CPD points).
Please Note:
1. Seminars or Workshops similar to class practice do not count.
2. These Events should DEVELOP/IMPROVE your TEACHING
3. Appropriate events have the potential to count as 1 point per hour.
4. The attendee needs to decide how many points an event can accrue, it is
NOT up to the organiser.
5. When you attend an event you are advised to keep a receipt or record
attendance/completion/certificate as proof.
6. First Aid days do not carry CPD points
Exemption from CPD in a particular year will be allowed in
the following circumstances: personal illness or injury,
bereavement or severe illness of a close family member, pregnancy and
childbirth, moving house, divorce/separation. If
you are claiming exemption, you need to inform Central Office. If you claim
for a second year of exemption you must write
to NISTO via Central Office.
Logging of CPD Hours
BWY teachers are now required to register their CPD training hours directly
onto the main BWY web site. This decision
was taken by NISTO as the majority of people have access to their own, or a
friend’s or relative’s computer.
1. Visit the national BWY website at http://www.bwy.org.uk
2. Using the 'Members Login' at the top left of the page, enter your BWY
membership number and a password. (Initially, this
password will be your postcode).
3. After logging in, you will be asked to change your password.
4. Click the link 'Your CPD' from the list displayed under the Members Area.
5. Click 'Add a new event' to access the input form for your CPD details.
6. Log out when you have finished.
Eventually, teachers will be able to book all IST days online. They will be
able to access these from the BWY website.
